National Manager of the Bureau of Meteorology’s Marine Weather Services
Neal Moodie is the National Manager of the Bureau of Meteorology’s Marine Weather Services, and has extensive experience in identifying stakeholder and mariner requirements, and in developing policy and services to support safe boating initiatives.
The Bureau of Meteorology is responsible for providing marine forecast and warning services for almost one tenth of the world’s ocean waters, and for over 37000 kilometres of coastline. The Bureau supports the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre with search and rescue forecast support, and provides advisory information for rock fishing and swimming safety.
Neal represents the Bureau of Meteorology on the Australian and New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group, and the National Search and Rescue Council. Neal also chairs the World Meteorological Organization’s expert team on Maritime Safety Services, which is responsible for coordinating the provision of Maritime Safety Information services on the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.
